The Bachelor of Commerce degree offers a broad range of majors and combined majors, so you're sure to find a specialisation that matches your interests. Don't worry - you don't need to decide right away!
Within the Bachelor of Commerce degree you choose to focus on one area of specialisation in-depth (a single major); or combine two separate areas, offering a broader perspective by combining majors. No matter what you choose, your degree will take the same amount of time to complete.
During the first year of the course, you will study common core units - to give you an introduction to the various aspects of business and help you choose your specialisation. You don't actually need to decide on your major or combined major until the second semester of your first year.

You can now study a range of arts majors combined with relevant business majors and gain an exciting combination of skills. For these interfaculty majors you can either apply for a Bachelor of Commerce degree or a Bachelor of Arts. With the Bachelor of Commerce degree, you will do business introductory units. If you choose a Bachelor of Arts degree you'll do a different set of core units but still combine it with a business major. See the list below.

Do you enjoy working with figures and finance? Are you good at writing and communicating? If you study accounting you will learn to record and communicate information relating to the financial performance and position of organisations. Units of study can include accounting, auditing, taxation, business law and finance.

Curtin offers some major combinations with study areas outside of business. You can combine your creative pursuits or cultural interests with highly relevant business skills and knowledge.

Agribusiness involves the systems and activities for food and fibre processing, marketing and distribution.
» Business Law / Legal studies
For students interested in commercial law practice. This subject examines the process by which law is created, changed and applied to business and government. Ethical issues in business practice are also considered. Units of study can include the legal process, litigation and different laws that apply to business and government.

For students interested in understanding the big picture of how companies, the government and households work. Units of study can include international economics, labour economics, banking, or financial planning. There are employment opportunities in many areas of business, government and the private sector.
» Human Resource Management / Industrial Relations
For students who enjoy organising and working with people. In this subject students gain knowledge and skills relating to the management of employment practices and organisational relationships. Units of study can include performance management, selecting and promoting staff, organisational behaviour and business communications.

For students interested in computers and the processing of information within an organisation. This subject examines the management, planning and design of information technology. Units of study can include design, development, project management, technological infrastructure and information systems.

These courses are targetted at students wishing to develop global managerial skills for international business and commerce.
» Logistics / Strategic Procurement / Supply Chain
For students interested in logistics and resources management in business. This study area covers foundations and techniques of management, law, purchasing and contract administration. Students study a range of issues applicable to strategic procurement, including competitive conduct, strategy, logistics and management.
» Management
For students interested in the relationships between people and organisations. This subject will give students skills in management, problem solving, planning, organising and managing change. Units of study can include management, finance, purchasing and procurement, small business, entrepreneurship and ethics.
» Marketing / Public Relations
For students interested in researching customer needs, designing new products and services, advertising and public relations.This subject area is dynamic and examines exchange processes in competitive markets. Units of study can include marketing research, public relations,advertising and strategic marketing
» Property
For students interested in the study of real estate and property. This subject area provides an understanding of the structure and operations of the real estate industry. Units of study can include real estate market analysis, development, finance and business, construction and building costs, property management and valuation
» Taxation
For students interested in specialising in taxation as part of their accounting careers. In this subject students gain a detailed knowledge of taxation laws and practice in Australia and overseas. Units of study can include payroll tax, land tax, stamp duty, goods and services tax, fringe benefits tax and tax deduction issues.
