WiSER hosts HREOC Listening Tour

WiSER welcomed a delegation from the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) back to Perth by acting as hosts for the Perth leg of the HREOC Listening Tour.  Elizabeth Broderick, the Sexual Disrimination Commissioner and Commissioner responsible for Age Discrimination and her staff gave over 40 representatives from local community and government agencies a chance to be heard as they discussed their own experiences of discrimination and abuse.  Read about the session here.

HREOC is maintaining a blog for their tour and welcomes input and feedback on three key themes:

  1. Economic independence for women
  2. Work and balance across the life cycle
  3. Freedom from discrimination, harassment and violence

WiSER hosted HREOC in 2007 as part of the launch of their paper "It's About Time"

WiSER  blog - The WiSER View

WiSER entered into the blogging frenzy with its very own blog, The WiSER View. The blog, hosted off the Curtin website, does not necessarily reflect the views and policies of the University. WiSER hopes it will serve as a forum for healthy discussion around women's issues within a safe environment. Contributions in the form of comments are welcome on the blog (please note that all comments are subject to a vetting process by WiSER prior to publication - this is mainly in order to remove unwanted spam postings) and we will also be recruiting guest bloggers. If you have an idea for content, please email WiSER.

WiSER launches report into Women and WorkChoices from a Western Australian perspective

Last year saw the launch of a national report titled Women and WorkChoices: Impacts on the Low Pay Sector. following the release of a series of state reports examining the effects of WorkChoices on low paid workers. As with the state reports, this report has met with the same dismissive response from the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Joe Hockey.

Read the Western Australian report, based on research conducted by WiSER and then read our blog for WiSER's response to the Hon Joe Hockey's criticisms.
