Accounting honours program

The School of Accounting offers a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Program to outstanding students who wish to extend themselves beyond the normal level of undergraduate studies. The completion of an honours degree is an indication of academic excellence.

About the Honours Program

The honours degree involves a fourth year of study after completion of the three year Bachelor of Commerce and entails advanced work that allows for greater depth of specialisation, and research skills development for a career in accounting.

Employers, such as chartered accountants, management consultants, large organisations and government, place a high value on these extended studies. Moreover, the exposure to research offered by the honours program uniquely provides career opportunities not generally available to students who have not completed the honours degree.

The honours degree is available to those students with an above average academic record who have satisfactorily completed the requirements of their undergraduate degree in the Bachelor of Commerce.

The honours year is normally undertaken immediately after completion of the undergraduate degree requirements.

Admission requirements

  • Admission to Honours is at the discretion of the Head of School or Manager of Postgraduate and Honours programs who consider each application on the basis of their academic record.
  • A working guideline for acceptance is a course weighted average of at least 75% obtained across relevant second and third year levels units.
  •  The Honours year can only be attempted once.
  • A degree with honours is awarded with the grade of first class honours; upper second class honours, lower second class honours, or third class honours.
