The School of Information Systems regularly hosts visiting academics who enrich the research culture of the School through interaction and collaboration.

 The following academics visited the School in 2008:

• Prof David Arnott, Monash University, Australia - July 2008, .
  Professors Arnott and Pervan are working on a joint research project entitled "The DSS Foundations Research Project'. Prof Arnott will also be presenting a research seminar.
  
  
• Prof Shirley Gregor,  Australian National University, Australia - August 2008, host A/Prof John Venable.
  Prof Gregor and A/Prof Venable will be conducting collaborative discussions and research on Design Science and Design Theory. Prof Gregor will also be presenting a resarch seminar.
  
  
• Dr Denis Helic, Gratz University of Technology, Austria - , host A/Prof Heinz Dreher.
  Dr Helic and A/Prof Dreher are collaborating on a project to create a grounded methodology for Intelligent Educational Systems development.
  
  
• Prof Juhani Iivary, University of Oulu, Finland - October 2008, host A/Prof John Venable.
  Prof Iivary and A/Prof  Venable will be conducting collaborative discussion and research in refining a conceptualisation of the Information Systems field and Design Science Research.  During his stay Prof Iivary will also be presenting a research seminar.
  
  
• Dr Bjorn Jaeger, Molde University College, Norway - , host Dr Vanessa Chang.
  Dr Jaeger will be visiting the School for 12 months.  During this time he will be working in three areas: teaching and learning in 3D-worlds; researching on information assurance/fault recovery routing; supply chain management, eProcurement and ERP.
  
  
• Prof Robert Meersman, Vrije University, Belgium - , host Prof Elizabeth Chang.
  Prof Meersman will be working closely with Prof Chang on the second edition of an edited book on "Web semantics" which will be published by Springer.  Prof Meersman will also be presenting two seminars and be available for research discussions.
  
  
• Dr Simon Milton, Senior Lecturer, Dept of Information Systems, University of Melbourne, Australia - Semester 2, 2008, host Dr John Venable. Dr Milton and A/Prof Venable will be conducting collaborative discussions and research in refining a conceptualisation of the IS field  and Design Science research and to plan and write collaborative papers.  Dr Milton will be presenting a seminar during his visit and also be available to discuss research projects.
  
  
• Prof John Nash, University of Ottawa, Canada - January 2008, host Mr Robert Williams.
  Prof Nash and Mr Williams are researching on proof of concept and understanding of mechanism of a tool that allows for automatic writing of essay reports ("GhostWriter").  Prof Nash will also be presenting a research seminar.
  
  
• Prof Ojelanki Ngwenyama, Ryerson University, Canada - April 2008, host A/Prof John Venable.
  Prof Ngwenyama and A/Prof Venable will be conducting collaborative research on how to improve the practice of business organisations and use of IT by taking a service-oriented approach. Prof Ngwenyama will teach a potgraduate unit on business Process Design and will be conducting a Developmental Workshop on Outcome Based Action learning for CBS Academic Staff.  He will also present a number of seminars to both staff and industry.
  
  
• Prof  Edwidge Pissaloux, Rouen University, France - January 2008, host Prof Elizabeth Chang.
  Prof Pissaloux and Prof Chang will be carrying out joint research in the areas of data mining and its applications to ICT and business, and image mining and its applications to ICT and business. Prof Pissaloux will be presenting a seminar to Curtin Business School staff.
  
  
• Dr Torsten Reiners, University of Hamburg, Germany - July 2008, host A/Prof Heinz Dreher.
  Dr Reiners is the Automated Assessment Laboratory implementation consultant and will be participating in research projects to further improve the AAL's integration in the general marking process, quality as well as usability.  The research visit should also be used to verify the possibility to reuse research results from the University of Hamburg.  He will also be offering a one day workshop in the filed of Meta-Heuristics and support the School's taching with respect to monitoring two IS projects.
  
  
• Prof Carlos Sierra, Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, Spain - August 2008, host Prof Elizabeth Chang.
  Prof Sierra will be working closely with Prof Chang on multi agent technology applications for industrial and business systems. He will also present two seminars.
  
  
• Prof Csaba Szabo, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary - January 2008, host Prof Elizabeth Chang.
  During his visit Prof Szabo will be carrying out joint research with Prof Chang in the areas of Social Computing Applicaiton, Technology and Infrastructure for DBE systems. He will also be presenting a seminar to staff.
  
  
• Prof Richard Welke, Georgia State University, USA - June 2008, host A/Prof John Venable.
  Prof Welke and  A/Prof Venable  will be conducting collaborative discussion and research in problem analysis and goal setting in process improvement and to plan and write collaborative papers.  Prof Welke will also be presenting a research seminar.
  
  Prof Louise Yngstrom, Stockholm University, Sweden host Dr Helen Armstrong.
  During her visit Prof Yngstrom and Dr Armstrong will be collaborating in building an ICT problem-solving model using a Systemic Holistic Approach. Prof Yngstrom will also present a seminar to CBS staff.
